Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:NO IARC:NO OSHA:NO
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:ACUTE: IF INHALED WITH A DEFICIENCY OF
OXYGEN, NITROUS OXIDE ACTS AS A SIMPLE ASPHYXIANT. CONTACT WITH
LIQUID MAY CAUSE FROSTBITE. CHRONIC: NONE KNOWN.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:THIS PRODUCT IS NOT LISTED BY IARC, NTP
OR OSHA AS A CARCINOGEN, MUTAGEN, TERATOGEN OR NEUROTOXIN.
Effects of Overexposure:RAPID RESPIRATION, MUSCULAR INCOORDINATION,
FATIGUE, NAUSEA, & VOMITING, UNCONSCIOUSNESS. INHALATION OF SMALL
AMOUNTS MAY PRODUCE FEELINGS OF EUPHORIA WHICH MAY DISGUISE
SLEEPINESS OR LOSS OF COORDINA TION ASSOCIATED WITH LACK OF OXYGEN.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:NONE KNOWN.
First Aid
First Aid:REMOVE TO A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. IF BREATHING IS DIFFICULT,
ADMINISTER OXYGEN. ADMINISTER ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION, IF NECESSARY.
OBTAIN PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION. FOR CRYOGENIC BURNS OR FROST BITE,
FLU SH AFFECTED AREA WITH WARM (NOT HOT) WATER.
Fire Fighting
Flash Point:NONFLAMMABLE
Extinguishing Media:MEDIA APPROPRIATE FOR SURROUNDING FIRE.
Fire Fighting Procedures:WEAR FIRE FIGHTING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND A
FULL FACED SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS. COOL FIRE EXPOSED
CONTAINERS WITH WATER SPRAY.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:NITROUS OXIDE SUPPORTS THE COMBUSTION OF
OTHER MATERIALS. FIRES IN WHICH NITROUS OXIDE IS HEATED HAVE THE
POTENTIAL OF RUPTURED & ROCKETING CYLINDERS.
Accidental Release
Spill Release Procedures:AVOID INHALATION OF GAS. PROVIDE SUFFICIENT
VENTILATION TO AVOID LOWERING OF OXYGEN CONTENT BELOW 19.5% VOL.
LIQUID SPILLS CAN CAUSE CRYOGENIC-TYPE BURNS. SELF-CONTAINED
BREATHING APPARATUS MAY BE RE QUIRED. GAS IS HEAVY; MAY ACCUMULATE
INLOW AREAS.
Neutralizing Agent:NOT APPLICABLE.
Handling
Handling and Storage Precautions:CYLINDERS SHOULD NOT BE DROPPED. KEEP
PROPERLY SECURED OR PROTECTED TO PREVENT CYLINDERS BEING KNOCKED
OVER. MATERIAL CAN BE STORED OUTSIDE.
Other Precautions:STORAGE TEMPERATURE SHOULD BE KEPT BELOW 125F.
CYLINDERS SHOULD BE STORED UPRIGHT WITH VALVE CAP IN PLACE.
CYLINDERS MUST NOT BE RECHARGED UNLESS BY OR WITH THE CONSENT OF
THE MANUFACTURER.
Exposure Controls
Respiratory Protection:USE NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING
APPARATUS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY OR NON-ROUTINE USE. USE IAW 29 CFR
1910.134 AND MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
Ventilation:PROVIDE SUFFICIENT VENTILATION TO AVOID LOWERING OF OXYGEN
CONTENT BELOW 19.5% BY VOLUME.
Protective Gloves:LEATHER OR NEOPRENE GLOVES
Eye Protection:APPROVED SAFETY GLASSES OR GOGGLES
Other Protective Equipment:SAFETY SHOES WHEN HANDLING CYLINDERS.
Work Hygienic Practices:OBSERVE GOOD PERSONAL HYGIENE PRACTICES AND
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES. USE PROPER CARE WHEN HANDLING AND STORING
CYLINDERS.
